This Workshop explores the evolution of the “Witch” from ancient spiritual figure to modern symbol of empowerment. Through lecture and guided discussion, participants will trace how Witchcraft has been defined, suppressed, and reclaimed across cultures and time—from prehistory and the rise of monotheism to modern feminist and liberation movements.
Designed to support participants in developing a more informed, safe, and empowered spiritual practice, this class connects historical understanding with modern discernment. By examining how gender, race, class, and age have shaped Witchcraft’s identity, participants will gain tools to evaluate teachers, traditions, and personal paths with greater awareness and authenticity.
Topics include Witchcraft before the written world, in early civilizations, and in pre-Christian Europe; the influence of organized religion; the witch hunts of the Middle Ages and Enlightenment; and the Witch’s re-emergence in modern movements such as W.I.T.C.H., Marea Verde, and the Black Protests.
This 90-minute session includes lecture, group dialogue, and reflective activities. Participants will have access to the class presentation for personal viewing during the event. No prior experience or materials are required.
